Dentures

What are Dentures?

Dentures in dentistry are orthopedic devices used to replace lost or damaged teeth and dental structures. There are two main types of dentures: partial dentures and complete dentures.

Partial Dentures:

  • Partial dentures are used when a patient has some natural teeth in the jaw. They can be used to replace one or more lost teeth.
  • They can be made of acrylics, metals, or a combination of these materials. Metal partial dentures usually have a metal base plate attached to the remaining teeth with clasps or other mechanisms.
  • Partial dentures are held in place by clasps that attach to the remaining natural teeth, providing stability and support.

Complete Dentures:

  • Complete dentures are used when all the teeth in one jaw are lost. They can be used for the upper or lower jaw or both jaws.
  • They can be made of acrylics or a combination of acrylics and metals. They sit on the gums and are supported by creating a vacuum seal against the mucous membrane and jawbone.
  • Complete dentures are removable and often held in place by vacuum, gravity, and adhesion to the mucous membrane.

Vironit (Vizil) Dentures:

  • Vironit (Vizil) dentures are a specific type of complete dentures, often made of acrylic material with the addition of metal. They are designed to replace all teeth in the jaw.
  • They have high aesthetic potential, are adaptable for a natural look of gums and teeth. They may contain a metal base to enhance durability and stability.
  • Vironit dentures provide chewing functionality, support speech, and an aesthetic appearance of the smile. They also use vacuum adaptation to maintain stability in the mouth.

Biodental Dentures – the new generation of dentures:

  • The advantage of these dentures is that the base of the dentures is made of a special biodental plastic material patented by the German company Bredent.
  • The material is chemically stable, mechanically resistant, and completely biocompatible, making it recommended for patients prone to allergies. It is used to make dentures without a metal structure, with pronounced strength and partial flexibility.
  • Additionally, the base of these dentures is white, allowing the clasps to be made in tooth color, making them nearly invisible. Biodental dentures are an excellent alternative to visible dentures, as they allow for the transmission of dental pressure and protect antagonists.
  • They are up to 60% lighter than other dentures.
  • All of this allows patients to adapt to wearing dentures more easily and quickly. A reduced number of adjustments has been observed, indicating that biodental dentures meet both functional and aesthetic requirements of patients.

All three types of dentures have their specific indications and advantages, and the choice depends on the individual needs of the patient, financial considerations, health conditions, and other factors. The dentist will recommend the appropriate type of denture after a thorough diagnosis and planning.
