Periodontology

Often unfairly neglected, periodontology is a branch of dentistry that focuses on the supporting tissues of the teeth. Since everything in the body is interconnected, healthy periodontal tissue is a prerequisite and foundation for any high-quality dental work, whether it involves crowns, bridges, or implants. Periodontal treatment restores the surrounding tissue to a healthy state and is typically performed as part of pre-prosthetic preparation. However, it doesn’t have to be associated with prosthetic therapy—it can also be carried out as a standalone treatment for patients who still have their natural teeth but whose supporting tissues are compromised.
